Here’s what Ken Jennings thinks of Jamie Ding’s ‘Jeopardy!’ run

Top 5 ‘Jeopardy!’ champs with most consecutive victories

Jamie Ding of New Jersey is among the Top 5 ‘Jeopardy!’ champs based on most consecutive victories on the show.

Metro Detroit native Jamie Ding could soon earn his 27th straight “Jeopardy!” win, and host Ken Jennings is cheering him on to break his all-time record, Jennings said during a question-and-answer session.

Jennings, responding to a question on how he would react if Ding, a 26-time champion were to beat his 74-win record, said he’d be very excited, in a video “Jeopardy!” posted to X Friday, April 17.

“I see. Like, if he were to, say, hypothetically, win game No. 75? That would be a record that nobody’s beaten for 20 odd years. I would be very excited, actually. Are you imaging me just be getting more and more pissed with every game? ‘If he wins, I’ll eat my hat or you know,” Jennings said.

Ding, New Jersey-based bureaucrat and law student and a 2009 graduate of Grosse Pointe North High School, has won $732,000 and is fifth all-time in victories heading into the Monday, April 20, contest.

Here’s what to know about the “Jeopardy!” host’s remarks.

When asked “what will you do if Jamie goes beyond your lead?” in a “Jeopardy!” video posted to X April 17, host Ken Kennings said he is pleased with the idea.

The questioner answered, “Well, he could take your job.”

“Yes, that’s what happens,” Jennings responded. “If you hit game No. 75 a trapdoor opens beneath me and I disappear. I’m of course perfectly impartial every game, but I actually believe that my record can be beaten and I just hope I am hosting when it happens.”

Ken Jennings is the host of the game show “Jeopardy!” and the all-time champion, with 74 straight wins in 2004.

Jennings has been the host on “Jeopardy!” for four seasons.

Jennings grew up in Seoul, South Korea. In 2004, he went on unprecedented 74-game victory streak and won $2.52 million. He later competed in several special Jeopardy! tournaments, including the “Ultimate Tournament of Champions” in 2005, “ Jeopardy!: The IBM Challenge in 2011,” the “Battle of the Decades” in 2014 and “Jeopardy! All-Star Games” in 2019.

Jamie Ding, a “Jeopardy!” contestant originally from metro Detroit, has scored 26 straight wins and will compete again Monday, April 20.
