A Florida-based couple has sparked quite the debate after a husband surprised his wife with a Disney cruise — then told her she had less than 12 hours to pack for it.
Content creators Alyssa and Cullen Griffin documented the hilarious moment in a recent video shared to their Instagram account @griffandalyssa, during which Cullen drops the news to Alyssa that he booked a cruise on the Disney Destiny ship just as she’s getting ready for bed.
While speaking to PEOPLE, the couple, who share two young children together, said they both found the surprise and Alyssa’s reaction to it to be “pretty hilarious” — but it certainly stirred up some opinions in the comments section.
“Interrupting my wife’s nighttime routine with a surprise Disney cruise that leaves in less than 12 hours,” the caption written over the video reads.
The video begins with Griffin coming into their bedroom to talk to his wife, as Alyssa has her hair wrapped in a towel and gold under-eye masks placed on her face.
“I’m coming in to tell you that we booked a Disney cruise and we take off tomorrow, less than 12 hours,” he tells her. With a confused expression on her face, she insists, “No you didn’t.”
Cullen then tells his wife to check her Disney Cruise Line Navigator app to see if she has a countdown, which forces her to realize the trip is in fact real.
The video then cuts to a compilation of Alyssa frantically grabbing her suitcase and rummaging through her closet before she grabs her phone.
“I wonder if Amazon Prime can do overnight delivery. Shoot! It’s not going to arrive in time,” she says while scrolling through her phone. “I know! You can’t shop for anything,” Cullen responds with a laugh.

Her face then lights up with an idea, as she says,” I wonder if Target is still open? Oh, I think Target’s still open. I’m gonna run to Target.”
Still in her nighttime attire, she then grabs her purse and keys and runs out the door as the video comes to an end.
“I booked a surprise Disney cruise and told my wife she had less than 12 hours to pack,” the caption of the post reads, in part.

Many users flocked to the comments section to share their thoughts on the video, which has since racked up almost 4 million views. A number of commenters thought Cullen’s gesture was a mean prank rather than a sweet gesture.
“I would be so unbelievably stressed out with less than 12 hour notice,” one user wrote, followed by another who added, “That’s stressful. I’d be pissed. He’d be leaving a 5am alone and the relationship would never be the same after that.”
Another wrote, “If you’re gonna surprise your wife or partner with under 12hrs you need to have already packed the essentials.”

Cullen tells PEOPLE he had been planning the cruise about eight months in advance. When it came time to get ready for it, he did in fact already pack for their kids and make sure everything was in order before dropping the surprise news on his wife, he says.
As for Alyssa, she says that while the news put her into a “panic moment” at first, she quickly realized, “Hey, I get to go on a vacation that I didn’t have to plan.”
However, she does have “something up my sleeve” to get her husband back for the unexpected surprise.
Despite the heated reaction from some users, the couple said their Disney cruise to the Bahamas was “amazing” and that they had a “relaxing, restorative” time together as a family.
