Vees President and General Manager Harbinson awarded Lloyd Saunders Memorial Trophy as WHL Executive of the Year for 2025-26

The Penticton Vees’ head coach, general manager and president Fred Harbinson has won the annual Lloyd Saunders Memorial Trophy as the Western Hockey League’s “Executive of the Year” for the regular season, as his team continues to battle in the playoffs.

In a press release issued Tuesday, the WHL praised Harbinson’s hand at the helm of the Vees’ record-breaking inaugural WHL season.

“Harbinson’s Vees finished fourth in the WHL’s overall standings and served as the third stingiest team in the WHL, allowing a mere 188 goals against (2.76 goals against per game) while producing the sixth-best offense in the WHL with 268 goals for in 68 games (3.94 goals for per game),” reads the press release.

The award is voted on by WHL general managers, as well as members of the media.

Harbinson’s impressive team continues to seek glory in the playoffs, hoping for a necessary win Tuesday night on home ice at the South Okanagan Events Centre to keep their championship dream alive.

The Vees are currently down 3-0 in their Western Conference Finals series against the Everett Silvertips, meaning a loss tonight would bring it all to an end.
