Trafford local election results 2026 in full

Voters in Trafford have had their say in the 2026 local elections.

Seats on Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council were up for election in the wards of Altrincham, Ashton upon Mersey, Bowdon, Broadheath, Brooklands, Bucklow-St Martins, Davyhulme, Flixton, Gorse Hill & Cornbrook, Hale, Hale Barns & Timperley South, Longford, Lostock & Barton, Manor, Old Trafford, Sale Central, Sale Moor, Stretford & Humphrey Park, Timperley Central, Timperley North, and Urmston.

A total of 21 out of 63 seats were up for grabs on Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council, with one councillor elected in each ward. Elections in Trafford take place three out of every four years with a third of councillors elected each time.

Trafford council is a metropolitan borough council responsible for the majority of local government services, such as education, social care, highways, planning and recycling.

Ahead of the election, Trafford Metropolitan Borough was controlled by Labour, who had 41 seats.

Polls closed at 10pm on Thursday, May 7, with the count taking place on Friday. Results for the Trafford local elections are due from Friday, May 8, at 4pm.

In total, more than 5,000 council seats were up for grabs across 136 local authorities in England on election day. Mayoral elections also took place in six areas.
