Officials said one lane of traffic is now open in each direction on South Capitol Street across the bridge in Southeast D.C. Drivers should still expect significant delays in the area.

The ongoing situation comes as the Washington Nationals are scheduled to play a home game at 1:35 p.m. at Nationals Park, just north of the bridge in the Navy Yard neighborhood.

With increased game-day traffic expected, officials are urging drivers to plan ahead, consider alternate routes, or use public transit.

The situation began on May 1 when the man climbed to the top of the bridge, prompting a large police and emergency response.

Authorities have not officially confirmed the identity of the person yet.

An individual identifying himself as Guido Reichstadter previously posted on X, claiming to be the person on the bridge, but police have not verified that claim.

In previous coverage, someone with the same name was involved in a similar demonstration in 2022.
