Austin Stowell Reveals Gibbs’ Major Decision in NCIS: Origins Season 2 Finale

The NCIS: Origins Season 2 finale is tonight and, of course, it comes with a twist. It may not seem as big as last season’s potential death of Cecilia “Lala” Dominguez (Mariel Molino) in that dramatic car crash, but it brings its own set of problems. The Camp Pendleton NIS office is in danger of being shut down, which would mean the breakup of the team as they would be sent to different offices.
With the uncertain future, we’d love to see some resolution in the relationship between Lala and Gibbs (Austin Stowell), even though he’s still married to Diane (Kathleen Kenny), but they have agreed to a divorce.
“There’s obviously feelings there,” Stowell exclusively told Parade at this year’s CBS Fest. “And for many, many reasons — the fact they work together — they haven’t been able to make that relationship come to fruition. So I think that tension is always this wonderful thing.”

“So, you’re watching two people who want something and can’t have it, and they’re never saying what’s on their minds,” he continued. “I think it’s what’s in between the lines that is so important. We’ve had to have dialogue between each other, which has allowed us to give winks and nods to what might be.”
As to whether we will ever find out what does happen between the two, we’re definitely going to have to wait at least one more season, which we already know will happen.
“So much has yet to be explained, and at the end of the day, this all started with the story of her,” Stowell points out. “There has to be the memories as an older Gibbs reflects on this chapter of his life.”
As for tonight’s finale, Stowell gave us the following tease: “The team is going to be challenged in ways that they haven’t before. Clearly, it’s going to be pushed to the brink. And when you’re pushed to the brink, you make big decisions, life-changing decisions, life-altering decisions. And sometimes you have to be reminded of how fragile life is in order for you to really go get what you want.”
And what we can tease – having seen the “Hollywood Ending” episode – is that Gibbs does make a decision to go get something he really wants, but at the same time, there is another big cliffhanger that we won’t spoil but which we will discuss in an exclusive interview with co-showrunners Gina Lucita Monreal and David J. North following the airing of the “Hollywood Ending” episode.
NCIS: Origins airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on CBS. Streams next day on Paramount+.
