Nick Shirley says he was almost taken hostage in Cuba

WASHINGTON (TNND) — YouTuber Nick Shirley said Monday evening that he was almost taken hostage while going on a trip to Cuba.
He said he was going there to document the humanitarian crisis in the country.
“I was almost taken hostage in Cuba…I went to Cuba to document the humanitarian crisis and show life under 60+ years of communism and now amid the US blockade,” he wrote in a post on the social media platform, X.
He said once he landed in Cuba, most of his cameras were seized and he had intelligence agents following him.
“Once I landed, they seized all my cameras except my iPhone and had intelligence agents following me all day until my security noticed their spies tailing us to the hotel where they waited all night for us to come down,” Shirley said.
Last month, the Senate rejected a move to prevent President Donald Trump from using the military in Cuba. President Donald Trump said during a Turning Point USA rally that he would start a “new dawn” for Cuba.
“Under communism there is no free speech, and those who show the reality or speak up are imprisoned,” Shirley’s post concluded. “Me going without a planned Cuban government guide nearly got me and my security taken hostage or imprisoned. The situation in Cuba is much worse than anyone knows.”

Last year, Shirley went viral after he went to Minnesota and filmed multiple daycare centers that appeared vacant. He alleged that millions of taxpayer dollars were funding the centers, meaning there was fraud.
