When the Chase Sapphire Reserve® announced its major refresh about a year ago, the card pretty much went full-on American Express Coupon Book mode.
One of the new statement credits is for event ticket reseller StubHub. At first, I kind of rolled my eyes. But now, I’m all on board — after just making my first purchase using the feature.
I’ll tell you what I bought, why, and how.
Chase Sapphire Reserve® StubHub Credit
Chase Sapphire Reserve® members can earn up to $300 each year for eligible StubHub purchases made with their Chase Sapphire Reserve® cards.
The $300 is divided up semi-annually: up to $150 from January through June, then up to $150 from July through December.
Like most credit card statement credit features, the $150 is if-used and does not roll over to the next period.
StubHub sells tickets to a lot of events. Professional and college sports, concerts, Broadway shows, ballets, festivals, comedy shows, and more. And you can often buy parking for events, too.
Let’s rewind to September 2025. A friend of mine (a fellow points-and-miles geek) asked if I used my StubHub credit yet.
“Uh, no, why?” I asked.
“Because Journey is going on their farewell tour and tickets are available now,” he said. “We already used our Sapphire Reserve StubHub credit for something else. So, what if I use your credit for this fall and buy Journey tickets? Then you can use mine whenever you want from January through June.”
I didn’t have immediate plans for my StubHub credit and I trust this person Faithfully. I don’t worry about us going our Separate Ways. So, I accepted the deal with Open Arms. (Wow, that was a lot of work for three Journey-related wisecracks.)
I pretty much forgot about the $150 credit he “owed” me.

But then my favorite college football team — the North Dakota State University Bison — announced their jump from the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS — formerly known as Division I-AA) to the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS — formerly DI-A). Starting June 1, they join the Mountain West Conference as a football-only member. (For the uninitiated, conference names based on geography are irrelevant these days. The Big “10.” Hilarious.)

I live in Los Angeles — relatively short flights away from NDSU road cities such as Las Vegas, Reno, San Jose, and Albuquerque. And a five-ish hour hop to Honolulu, where the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors play.
Do you have any idea how excited I am?
My Southwest Companion Pass will be working overtime. I donated a Delta Companion Certificate to two fellow Bison fans going to the Hawaii game. Hotels shouldn’t be a problem.
But game tickets?
Hmmmm…
Some season ticket members are already reselling their tickets for the upcoming year. (Hat tip to my friend John for that nugget.)
So, I called my friend and got his Chase Sapphire Reserve® card number.

I logged on to StubHub and found one of the games I plan on attending.
StubHub’s seat map shows you the section and rows of available tickets — but not the exact seat numbers. You get those sometime after your purchase — and anytime right until the event starts.
I had two $150 credits to play with — so I decided to max out their values.
But here’s where that got interesting.
I wanted two tickets — and seats with a good view. For something at the 35-yard line, two tickets ran about $360 total. Fine with me. But StubHub doesn’t split payment across credit cards.

So I had to cross-reference which tickets were being sold as a pair and individually. I found a couple in, like, Section 152, row 17 — and hope to heaven that they’re together. (Worst-case scenario, they’re not. My wife and I can send air high-fives to each other after every Bison score.)
I used my friend’s Chase Sapphire Reserve® for the first purchase in section 152, row 17, and then mine for the second purchase in the same section, row 17.
Fingers crossed! I’ll Venmo or PayPal my friend the $30 balance and we’ll be settled there.
Also, I started my shopping session at Rove — where I should earn about 2,160 Rove Miles (StubHub is 6x) for the purchase.
I wanted to go to this game anyway — and the StubHub credits helped me save a few bucks and get better seats. (As opposed to spending the same amount and sitting in the end zone corner or something.)
South Dakota State and University of North Dakota fans: I’ll send you postcards. And some cheese for your whine. (Calm down, UND people. I went to school in Grand Forks for a year.)

More Thoughts on the StubHub Credit
I know people who hate sports in general (and I’m somehow still friends with them!). But they love theatre shows, concerts, and stuff like that. ]
So when they go to New York or have the chance to see a touring Broadway show, the StubHub credit works great for them. Or when there’s a concert they want to attend, they can use their StubHub credit to see a show they already wanted to see. It may help them save money on tickets — or spend the same amount as they would but “upgrade” themselves to better seats.
Final Approach
If you’re thinking about getting the Chase Sapphire Reserve®’s best-ever 150k welcome bonus, keep in mind that you still have — as of this posting — a few weeks to use your StubHub credit and instantly knock off some of that $795 annual fee.
