South Western Railway launches £6 ticket sale for May half-term trips

South Western Railway (SWR) has launched a sale on train tickets for travel later this month. In total, 40,000 discounted tickets are available for travel between Saturday 23rd and Sunday 31st May, priced from just £6 each way.
The train tickets are being offered in simple fare zones:
- £6 for short-distance to & from London
- £9 for mid-distance to & from London
- £12 for long-distance to & from London
For example, a trip to Portsmouth, Southampton, or Salisbury is £9, and to Bournemouth, Exeter, or Weymouth is £12.
(NB: the popular destinations have fewer tickets, so my tip is to use this as a chance to visit the smaller towns, as there are more tickets available)
And for those who have them, some railcard discounts also apply, offering a further third off the prices above.
(16-25, 26-30, Family & Friends, Senior, HM Forces, Disabled Persons, Veterans and Two Together)
Tickets will be available until the end of 18th May – or when sold out, whichever comes first.

Matthew Winnie, South Western Railway’s Chief Customer and Commercial Officer, said: “Our first-ever big May Rail Sale is all about helping customers enjoy great value days out and short breaks across the SWR network during the half-term and May bank holiday period.
“Whether it’s a seaside escape, a cultural city break or a countryside adventure, there are so many fantastic destinations that can be reached easily, affordably and sustainably by rail.”
