Spencer Pratt faces backlash over L.A. mayoral campaign ad, denies living at luxury hotel

Los Angeles mayoral candidate and reality TV star Spencer Pratt is facing backlash on Wednesday over a recent campaign ad that some claim is misleading.
In the ad, which was posted April 29, he’s seen standing in front of a trailer at the site of his burned out Palisades home. Pratt claims his competitors live in pricey mansions while, he says, “This is where I live.”
On Wednesday morning, TMZ broke the story that Pratt has been staying at the luxury Hotel Bel-Air for more than a month.

Responding to TMZ, Pratt remained defiant. “I don’t live anywhere is what I’m saying. I don’t have a house, they burned it down, Harvey.”
He continued, “The point of the ad is to show, this is where they burned my house down. I have no house. This is their houses, they’re fine, and this is where I live.”
Pratt would not say if his campaign ad was misleading. He confirmed his family is in Santa Barbara and he has been at Hotel Bel-Air, but only for six days. Pratt did not answer when asked if he had ever stayed in the trailer featured in the ad.
KTLA has reached out to Pratt and his campaign but has not yet heard back.
Poll: Karen Bass maintains lead as undecided voters drop in L.A. mayor race
While incumbent Karen Bass appears to be holding her lead in the primary election for Los Angeles mayor, Pratt is picking up support from previously undecided voters, according to a new Emerson College Polling/Inside California Politics survey released Wednesday.
He appears to be a main challenger for Bass’ job, with 22% of the support from surveyed voters.
The backlash Pratt is facing over his ad comes just days after California gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton was called out over a video he posted that seemingly showed his lack of taco knowledge.
Hilton had filmed himself outside of Del Taco’s original location in Barstow and referred to his food choice as a “Barstow street taco.”
Many were quick to point out that fast food tacos do not qualify as authentic street tacos, which are typically served by vendors or carts. Hilton’s taco was also on a hard shell, not a soft tortilla.
