  • Sources say Taylor and William have stayed in touch through letters and cards.

The royal wedding is almost here—and yes, I’m talking about Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s upcoming nuptials. Ever since the two got engaged last August, the big day has inspired endless speculation, including when it will be (July 3, 2026, if you believe the rumors) and where it will take place (New York City, supposedly). And of course, people are curious about the guest list, which will certainly include Hollywood royalty and—according to the latest rumblings—maybe even legit royalty.

It’s long been rumored that Taylor invited Prince William and Kate Middleton to the wedding, and at long last, the Prince of Wales is spilling the tea. When asked whether he “got an invite” during a May 22 appearance on the UK radio show Heart Breakfast, Wills said, “No comment. I’m hoping and I’m sure there might be an invitation around but we’ll see.” Iiiinteresting!

The rumors first began last October, when a source for Fox News Digital claimed Tay wanted to extend an invite to the Waleses given her “good friendship” with Wills. As the insider explained, Taylor and William first bonded “over 10 years ago” and have stayed close through “private letters, inspirational cards, and good wishes to Princess Catherine during her difficult year.”

They continued, “Now, Taylor is planning the wedding of all weddings, but this is what makes her unique. She wants to use the wedding not just to say as a celebration of love, but also to thank people who have made the journey to this point along the way and that will include all manner of people from all manner of backgrounds.” Welp, having the future king at her wedding would certainly be…unique!

And if you’re thinking, “Um, since when are Taylor Swift and Prince William friends?” allow me to catch you up to speed. The two first crossed paths back in 2013 at a Centrepoint Gala Dinner held at Kensington Palace. They later joined Bon Jovi on stage to perform “Livin’ on a Prayer,” which resulted in these iconic photos:

Wills later told the story of how that performance came to be during a 2021 episode of Apple Fitness+’s “Time to Walk” series, recounting (via People), “I’m sat next to Taylor Swift. She’s on my left. And after Jon does his first song, there’s a pause and she turns to me. She puts her hand on my arm, looks me in the eye, and says, ‘Come on, William. Let’s go and sing.’”

He added, “To this day, I still do not know what came over me. Honestly, even now, I’m cringing at what happened next, and I don’t understand why I gave in. But, frankly, if Taylor Swift looks you in the eye, touches your arm, and says, ‘Come with me…’ I got up like a puppy and went, ‘Yeah, okay, that seems like a great idea. I’ll follow you.’”

The two remained friends after the event, and in June 2024, Wills celebrated his 42nd birthday by attending Taylor’s Eras Tour concert with George and Charlotte at London’s Wembley Stadium, which resulted in yet another iconic photo:

It’s TBD whether the Waleses will be in attendance on Taylor and Travis’ big day, but in the meantime, here’s the full “Livin’ on a Prayer” video for your viewing pleasure:
