Beartooth singer Caleb Shomo comes out as gay, wife reacts

Caleb Shomo is sharing his truth.
Shomo, the lead singer for the rock band Beartooth, came out as gay in an Instagram post on Saturday, May 23.
“There’s been a lot of speculation surrounding my personal life as of late and I feel compelled to set the record straight before it affects those I love any further,” he wrote. “I am a proudly gay man. This is something I’ve been unpacking and reckoning with in my life for quite some time now.”
The singer, 33, has been married to his wife Fleur Shomo for 14 years.
In his post, Shomo shared that he feels “embarrassed” he didn’t “allow myself to really dig up the roots for so long,” adding that he “spent a decade burying feelings with alcohol.” But he said that when he decided to “focus on exploring why I felt this way for so long, it’s been a direct path to me reconciling with my sexuality in hopes that it will eventually lead to me experiencing self love.”
The singer closed by thanking “those who have shown me love” and support, also encouraging “anyone who’s struggling with who they are to give yourself grace” and “do the hard work instead of burying it down as deep as you physically can thinking it will change like I did.”
Shomo’s wife, Fleur Shomo, reacted to his announcement in her own Instagram post on May 23. She shared her support for the singer and confirmed they are no longer together.
“The past few months have been a very disorientating and hurtful time to navigate,” she wrote. “For both of us. But I will always want to love, protect and support Caleb. I have cared more about his well being over the years than anything else in the world.”
She continued that “to support him whilst losing everything has been incredibly hard to figure out,” adding that “you can love and support your person through the hardest time in their life, whilst also be completely demolished & lose yourself at the same time.”
After reflecting that “our nearly 14yrs of marriage was wonderful and full of so much fun, adventure & love,” and “I already miss it & my husband more than anything,” she closed by encouraging fans to continue supporting him.
Shomo founded Beartooth in 2012, and the band has since released five studio albums, most recently 2023’s “The Surface.” Their latest album, “Pure Ecstasy,” is set for release in August after the band dropped their single “Free” in February.
Shomo was previously a part of the metalcore band Attack Attack!, but left in 2012. At the time, he said his exit was due to clinical depression. Shomo shared that he had struggled with suicidal thoughts since he was in middle school and was also grappling with eating disorders and self-image problems since becoming Attack Attack!’s frontman.
