Thatcham CC fall short in high-scoring weekend as local sides endure tough outings

Thatcham Town suffered home defeat on Saturday despite a strong batting display at Brownsfield in Thames Valley League Division 2A.

Having won the toss and elected to bat, Thatcham enjoyed an exceptional start against White Waltham.

Openers Michael Klichowicz and Simon Lewis constructed a brilliant 102-run partnership, with Klichowicz reaching his half-century in 70 balls before falling at 59 to t Sreekanth Surendran.

Lewis anchored the rest of the innings, falling agonisingly short of a century on 93 after facing 139 deliveries and striking 11 boundaries and a six.

A late cameo from Odhinn Moore, who smashed 35 runs off just 17 balls, pushed Thatcham to a competitive total of 243-8 from 50 overs.

In response, the visitors mounted a powerful run chase.

Openers Usman Butt (28) and Cloudesley Long (38) set the platform before Matt Furness and Ben Scarborough put the game out of Thatcham’s reach.

The pair shared a 115-run partnership for the fourth wicket, with Scarborough hitting a quick 62 from 54 balls.

Furness remained unbeaten on 85 from 97 balls, guiding Waltham to victory at 247-5 with nearly eight overs to spare.

Meanwhile, Theale and Tilehurst celebrated a comprehensive victory against Kidmore End at Douai Abbey.

After being asked to bowl, the hosts produced an excellent team performance to dismiss Kidmore for 188.

Craig Palmer top-scored for the visitors with 30, but brilliant three-wicket hauls from Rafae Farooq (3-32) and Robert Dimmack (3-12) kept the target well within reach.

Theale made short work of the chase, racing to a revised target of 190-4 in 31.4 overs.

Abdullah Nadeem set the tone with an aggressive 32 before Oliver Buckle struck an unbeaten 53 from 71 balls.

J Jackson provided the finish, smashing 39 not out off 21 balls, including two sixes, to wrap up a 22-point victory.

It was a much tougher afternoon for Purley on Thames, who suffered a heavy defeat at Goosecroft against Aldershot.

The visitors batted first and made 332-6, lifted by a superb 133 from opener Alex Farr and supported by Corne Botes (57) and Rob Hislop (64).

Usman Ijaz was the pick of the Purley bowlers with 2-65.

In reply, Purley struggled to establish partnerships and were bowled out for 169 in 30.5 overs, skipper George Wheeler top-scoring with 34.

Sulhamstead & Ufton faced a similar batting onslaught at the Watson Oval, where Binfield piled on 340-6.

Arno Hattingh starred with a masterclass of 107 from 116 balls, while James Muir contributed 64.

Sulhamstead fought back valiantly with half-centuries from Marc Thompson (63) and Mubarak Tahir (57), but the hosts were dismissed for 204.
