Report: Red Sox to option Brayan Bello to triple-A after rough start vs. Orioles

Brayan Bello will have to solve his issues while starting in the minor leagues.
Bello allowed eight earned runs and seven hits over 5.0 innings in the outing, extending a stretch of poor results when he has served as Boston’s starter. Six of those runs came in the first inning, as Baltimore tagged the 27-year-old for five hits while working three walks on its way to the 8-2 victory.
The outing moved Bello’s ERA to 10.35 as a starter, a mark that drops to 0.71 when he has pitched in relief.
After the game, Bello had some harsh words for the conversation around whether he should be coming out of the bullpen or not.
“First of all, just stop talking about bullpen and starting games,” he told reporters through a team translator. “I’ve always been a starter and when I’ve been successful as a starter, no one has questioned whether I have to be in the bullpen or starting games. So, starting from there, just stop that talk, I’m just having a bad season.”
Bello was a key piece of Boston’s rotation during its run back to the post-season in 2025, carrying a 3.35 ERA over 166.2 innings and 28 starts.
The Red Sox extended the Dominican hurler in 2024 on a six-year, $55-million deal that runs through 2029 and has a team option for 2030.
