Joan Cusack Makes Rare Red Carpet Return

Joan Cusack dusted off her red-carpet shoes for a rare appearance on Tuesday, stepping out at the Toy Story 5 premiere in Hollywood, Variety reports. The film marks her return as cowgirl Jessie—and her first acting role in six years—after largely opting out of the Hollywood grind to raise her kids and run her Chicago gift shop, Judy Maxwell Home. “It’s also great to live your life and … be a normal person,” she said, calling that choice “priceless.” Cusack made her first red-carpet appearance in 11 years at the UK premiere of the film last month, E! Online reports.

Cusack, who’s voiced Jessie since the character first appeared in 1999, admits she once figured the role would amount to “a couple of lines.” Nearly 30 years later, Jessie is central enough to inspire Taylor Swift’s new end-credits song, “I Knew It, I Knew You.” (She was also at the premiere, and performed with “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” singer Randy Newman, per the Hollywood Reporter.) Toy Story 5, out June 19, reunites Woody and Buzz with the other toys to rescue Bonnie from her Lilypad tablet.
