Rancho Deluxe: The Chevy Silverado 1500 Gets All Purtied up for 2027

Overview
The Silverado 1500 pickup truck carries plenty of weight for Chevrolet, both figuratively and literally. So, with eight years of service under its belt, Chevrolet rightly figured 2027 was prime time for a makeover. What Chevy is calling the next generation of the big pickup doesn’t stray far from the bold blueprint of its forebear, but its famous face features new lower LED lamps that consume more real estate, pinched LED illumination just below the hood seam, and a reworked lower bumper.
Engine choices include the returning turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder and the 3.0-liter diesel, the pair joined by freshly massaged V8s of 5.7- and 6.6-liter displacements. A ten-speed automatic is now standard across the board, paired with a choice of rear- or four-wheel drive. Returning customers will be pleased to know there are still three cab sizes and three bed sizes to choose from. In other words, the 2027 Silverado remains a hardworking rig with plenty of available features.
Expert Tip: Loyalty runs deep in the pickup market, and the biggest question many bow-tie buyers will face is whether to stick to the 1500 or step up to a Silverado HD.
What’s New for 2027?
Nearly everything. The 6.2-liter V-8 is exiled to make room for a new 6.6-liter V-8; the origins of the 5.7-liter V-8 are still unknown. (We think it’s an upsized version of the previous 5.3-liter.) The more rugged Z71 package is now standard with four-wheel drive, the “Silverado” tag replaces the old LT trim, the entire lineup gets a 16.3-inch infotainment screen, and the High Country has the first-ever panoramic sunroof offered in a Silverado. In addition to the fresh styling—the kick-up kink formerly on the rear door window sill is gone, for example—the entire truck is familiar, but new.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

Chevrolet is keeping the drama factor high, withholding the output specifications for the engine lineup until closer to the on-sale date. We guesstimate that the turbo 2.7-liter will continue to make around 305 horsepower and that the 3.0-liter turbo diesel will churn out about 300 ponies as they did in the 2026 trucks, but the specific output of the new 5.7- and 6.6-liter V-8s remains a mystery. The previous 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter units that the new engines replace checked in at 355 and 420 horsepower, respectively, and we figure the new mills will beat those numbers. The pair of off-road-forward ZR2 trims roll with 35-inch MT tires, a 2-inch lift, race-proven Multimatic DSSV dampers, standard front and rear electronic locking differentials, and a dedicated off-road hood with a bigger power dome.

The entire 2027 Silverado lineup gets a 16.3-inch center display and 12.2-inch digital driver display; the ZR2 and High Country have a head-up display that comes paired with a rear-view camera and an 11.5-inch passenger screen. The High Country features dual wireless charging pads, but they’re available on other trims as an option.
