Wrexham Council issues update on schools during amber heat warning

An amber weather warning for heat is now in place, with temperatures expected to hit the mid to high 30s in the coming days.
The warning put in place by the Met Office came into force at midnight on Wednesday, (June 24) and is in force until 11:59 pm on Thursday, (June 25).
This has prompted concerns that schools may close in a bid to help keep children cool.
However, Wrexham Council have now confirmed that schools will be assessed on an individual basis.
Councillor Phil Wynn, Lead Member for Education, said: “During this period of extreme warm weather, schools will operate using the Welsh Government guidelines and decisions are made on an individual basis by headteachers for each school.
“Schools may relax uniform requirements and assess the suitability of certain accommodation on a regular basis.

The Met Office is forecasting highs of around 31C for today (Wednesday), with lows of just 17C during the night.
However, on Thursday, current temperatures are expected to hit at least 35C during the day, with lows of 21C first thing in the morning.
Even though the weather warning does not cover Friday, at the moment, on Friday, temperatures are expected to hit around 33C.
On Saturday, temperatures are expected to be in the high 20s, and on Sunday, temperatures are set to be back down to the low 20s.
