What Leeds United are already saying about Dominic Calvert-Lewin behind the scenes

TBR Football understands that Leeds United are already very impressed by Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s start to life at Elland Road.

Once it became clear that Dominic Calvert-Lewin would be leaving Everton for free in the summer, a number of Premier League clubs were circling.

Newcastle United were interested in Calvert-Lewin, but it was ultimately Leeds who made the most convincing pitch.

A few months later, the 28-year-old has now made five appearances under Daniel Farke, yielding just the one goal.

But aside from just goals, which will hopefully come for the striker, Calvert-Lewin has been very busy in his displays, and he’s showing signs that he can be a big hit for Leeds.

Exclusive: Leeds are impressed by Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s effect on the squad

That being said, TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey has now provided further insight into Calvert-Lewin’s start at Leeds.

Along with the likes of Noah Okafor, who arrived from AC Milan, Calvert-Lewin is already having a positive effect on Leeds’ squad.

Leeds have been impressed by the England striker’s demeanour, as Bailey explained, “Leeds are really happy with how he’s settling in.

“When you bring in good-quality players, they rub off on each other, and that benefits the rest of the team.

“Okafor and Calvert-Lewin, coming up from the Championship, are a massive step up in quality for Leeds.

“They’re both international-calibre players, and their presence raises standards across the squad.

“Jack Harrison still has a role to play for Leeds. Calvert-Lewin may not be scoring as much as fans would like, but unless someone is hitting 40 goals a season, most forwards will face that criticism.

“Overall, they’re very happy with what they’ve seen so far. These players are influencing each other and the team positively, and they’ve been pretty impressive.”

Calvert-Lewin will aim to beat his highest Premier League goal tally at Leeds

So far in his career, Calvert-Lewin has scored 58 Premier League goals in 243 top flight appearances.

In terms of his most Premier League goals in one season, the striker bagged 16 for Everton in 33 appearances during the 2020/21 campaign.

Of course, Leeds will be delighted if Calvert-Lewin can match or go one better than that number this season.

Although he missed his spot kick against Sheffield Wednesday in the EFL Cup, there’s a good chance that Calvert-Lewin could take penalties at Elland Road this season.

And it might ultimately come down to the 28-year-old’s fitness in determining whether he is able to hit double-digits this season.

Calvert-Lewin hasn’t done so in the league since that season for Everton mentioned, but he’ll be hoping to now build on his recent strike against Wolverhampton Wanderers, a performance Farke labelled as ‘outstanding’.
