‘No contest’ plea in the works for Addison County prosecutor charged with DUI

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A plea deal is in the works that would allow the Addison County prosecutor charged with drunk driving last year to plead no contest and avoid jail time.

After several closed-door conversations between Judge John Pacht and attorneys on Wednesday, a court hearing concluded with a framework of a plea deal for Addison County State’s Attorney Eva Vekos.

Vekos was charged with DUI after state troopers said she drove to the scene of a homicide investigation intoxicated in January 2024.

Addressing the courtroom, Judge John Pacht said Vekos would plead no contest to the charge and likely be given a deferred sentence of probation.

Pacht said he’s inclined to approve the deal over the state’s objection because of how long the case has been pending, and because Vekos already served the suspension of her driver’s licence and completed the necessary programming.
