SZA Says She ‘Finally’ Got Formally Diagnosed With Autism

Grammy-winning singer SZA has shared some personal news.
On Sunday, July 5, the “Good Days” hitmaker — whose real name is Solana Rowe — took to her burner Instagram (@notmusicatalIswear) to share that she was recently diagnosed as living on the autism spectrum.
The post shares what appears to be medical paperwork, reading “Solana Rowe is a…woman who presents with a history, patterning of scores, behaviors, on examination that are quite consistent with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Solana has a qualitative impairment in reciprocal social interaction, as both self-reported and observed by this examiner.”
In the post’s caption, SZA wrote she “Finally took the time [and] got formally diagnosed,” and noted her pattern recognition skills, warning people to “stop playing in my face cause pattern recognition told me and I WILL get to the bottom of it.” She also shared that she believes the recent revelation is why she is adamantly against AI.
In the weeks prior, SZA had taken to the same burner account to slam AI-music creator platform Suno, while noting that producer Diplo has equity in the company.
While much of the burner account has been used to share personal news, the “30 For 30” singer also recently announced that new music is on the way — and we have one of her special collaborators to thank.
In a recent post from SZA’s main account, she revealed that Steve Lacy — with whom she recently collaborated on the duet “Is It Cool?” — “literally revived” her after feeling uninspired following her SOS and Lana album eras, as well as last year’s Grand National Tour.
Fans have taken to the comments across SZA’s social channels to express their support. And as is par for the course, they are all looking forward to a new, honest chapter in SZA’s music.
