Julia Garner To Headline ‘Guilty Creatures’ Apple Series Based On Book

Apple TV has handed a series order to Guilty Creatures, a new thriller based on Mikita Brottman‘s acclaimed true-crime book Guilty Creatures: Sex, God, and Murder in Tallahassee, Florida, starring and executive produced by Emmy winner Julia Garner (Ozark, Weapons). Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya, Your Friends & Neighbors, Pam & Tommy), will direct and Stuart Zicherman (The Shrink Next Door, Sweetbitter, The Americans) will serve as showrunner and executive producer.

Adapted for the screen by Sarah DeLappe (Bodies Bodies Bodies), the true crime narrative is set against a backdrop of sex and and murder in the Florida panhandle. The series delves into the psyche of a torrid romance and subsequent act of murder between two young, adulterous but God-fearing lovers, unraveling their complex lives and the emotional toll of living as killers for 18 years.

Guilty Creatures is produced by Tomorrow Studios, an ITV Studios partner, and developed through the studios’ first-look deals with Garner’s Alma Margo and Gillespie’s Fortunate Jack Productions. Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements and Alissa Bachner will executive produce through Tomorrow Studios, along with Garner through Alma Margo. Zicherman serves as executive producer alongside DeLappe. Gillespie and Annie Marter executive produce through Fortunate Jack Productions. Brottman will also serve as an executive producer.

Garner, best known for her work on Netflix series Ozark, will next be seen starring opposite Anthony Boyle in limited series The Altruists, also on the streamer. She also serves as executive producer. Garner is currently in production opposite Charlize Theron in the Amazon MGM Studios pic Tyrant from David Weil, who is directing from a script he wrote. She will also appear in the upcoming season of Apple TV’s The Studio. Last year she starred in two of 2025 biggest hits in Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps and the Oscar-nominated horror thriller Weapons. Other notable film and television credits include The Royal Hotel, The Assistant, Grandma, Maniac, Dirty John, and The Americans. Garner is repped by UTA, LBI Entertainment, and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern. 

Gillespie most recently directed DC’s Supergirl and directed episodes of Your Friends & Neighbors and the TV miniseries Pam & Tommy. He and his Fortunate Jack Productions are repped by CAA and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.

Marter is repped by attorney Jared Bloch. Zicherman is repped by Mosaic Media Group, UTA, and MFW. Brottman is repped by Betsy Lerner at Dunow, Carlson and Lerner Literary Agency.
