St. Mirren 4-3 East Kilbride: League Cup holders fight back from three down to beat third-tier side

Scottish League Cup holders St Mirren staged a remarkable four-goal comeback to all but end East Kilbride’s hopes of progression from the groups.

Mick Kennedy’s third-tier side charged into a stunning three-goal lead, with a first-half double from Cami Elliot followed by a Craig McGuffie penalty.

But the top-flight hosts responded almost immediately with a spot-kick of their own, converted by summer signing Eseosa Sule.

Ryan Carr then reduced East Kilbride’s lead to just one goal before Killian Phillips levelled a thrilling group game.

With an enthralling encounter heading for a bonus point penalty shootout, Malik Dijksteel needed in the third minute of stoppage time to complete an incredible St Mirren fightback.

If the Premiership club avoid defeat at home to second-tier Dunfermline Athletic on Saturday, they will progress as Group C winners.
