Rochester, N.Y. — Officers broke up large crowds in the overnight hours on the city’s north side, according to the Rochester Police Department.
Lt. Nicholas Adams said officers said officers “began addressing crowds of several hundred individuals” along North Clinton Avenue between Upper Falls Boulevard and Avenue D around 11:30 p.m. Thursday, continuing for several hours, with “several” glass bottles thrown toward officers as they attempted to clear the area.
Meanwhile, a group of at least 100 people assembled in the area of Morrill and Remington streets. Adams said multiple people in the group fired guns at 2:44 a.m. Friday, prompting large groups of pedestrians and vehicles to flee the area. No one was struck by gunfire, but several vehicles and at least one occupied home were.
Adams said police surrounded a nearby home and questioned the occupants, but no arrests were made. The investigation is ongoing.
The incident came one week after the city announced a ban on gatherings of 10 or more people in the overnight hours.
