The squad trimming will be crucial for Boro, who have already significantly strengthened and are set to further add to their squad with the arrival of Radek Vitek, who is due on Teesside to put the finishing touches to his move from Manchester United.

Burgzorg spent the second half of last season on loan at Bristol City, and while he would have been a useful squad player during last term’s run-in, Boro have already strengthened their forward line with the arrivals of Will Lankshear and Kyle Joseph and more forward players could yet arrive before the end of the window.

Burgzorg has made more than 70 appearances since joining Boro two seasons ago but struggled for consistency and never managed to nail down a starting place in the side.

Sene arrived at Boro from Lausanne last summer and had a bright start under Rob Edwards but never featured in Kim Hellberg’s plans. It was decided before the end of the season that an exit would suit all parties on that front and a deal has now been agreed with Young Boys.
