Evason says he checked in on Chinakov late in the preseason to make sure they were on the same page. The 24-year-old Omsk, Russia native had previously made a trade request during the summer.
Originally taken with the 21st overall pick of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, Chinakov will be a restricted free agent at season’s end.
He appeared in 30 games a season ago, registering seven goals and eight assists.
The Blue Jackets open their season on the road against the Nashville Predators.
Anaheim Ducks
Forward Ryan Strome will not play on Anaheim’s opening road trip against the Seattle Kraken and San Jose Sharks due to an upper-body injury.
The 32-year-old scored 10 goals and added 31 assists over 82 games with the Ducks last season, his third in Anaheim.
Vegas Golden Knights
Russian winger Pavel Dorofeyev will be in the lineup for Vegas’ season opener against the visiting Los Angeles Kings after being questionable due to a lower-body injury.
Head coach Bruce Cassidy said Dorofeyev should see time on the team’s top power play unit.
The 24-year-old scored a team-high 35 goals in 2024-25, his fifth season with the Golden Knights.
