Dow down around 500 points midday as U.S. stocks head for weekly loss

The U.S. equities market was trading sharply lower midday Friday as technology-related stocks struggled, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average, S&P 500 and Nasdaq composite all on track for weekly losses.
The Dow was down 539 points, or 1.2%, at 45,820.
The S&P 500 was falling 101 points, or 1.5%, to around 6,634.
The tech-heavy Nasdaq was dropping 447 points, or 1.9%, to around 22,578.
For the week, the Dow was on track to fall 2%, the S&P 500 was on pace to retreat 1.2% and the Nasdaq was heading for a 0.9% decline, according to FactSet data midday Friday.
