The North Texas transfer’s status for the second half is unclear.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Virginia quarterback Chandler Morris was knocked out of the No. 12 Cavaliers’ game Friday night against visiting Wake Forest in the second quarter. His status for the second half is unclear.
With UVA ahead 3-0, Morris ran for six yards on second down and 7, then slid down just shy of the UVA 14-yard line. Two Wake Forest defenders hit the quarterback as he was sliding, Travon West and Davaughn Patterson, sandwiching him and drawing a 15-yard personal foul penalty on West.
Morris remained down the field for a few minutes before getting up, walking gingerly to the sideline and then heading directly to the team’s locker room.
His backup, Nebraska transfer Daniel Kaelin came in and took his first snap 54 yards on a designed run, getting down to the 1-yard line. That play more than doubled UVA’s offensive output to that point. It had 45 total yards before Morris went out.
Kaelin’s run set up Will Bettridge’s second field goal of the half, giving UVA a 6-0 lead with 4:27 left until halftime.
Morris, who was 3 for 6 passing for 19 yards before his injury, has dealt with a left shoulder injury for much of this season, but Saturday’s issue did not appear related to that.
