Among the top six highest Asian run scorers in WTC history, Babar Azam averages the most.

Babar Azam hasn’t been in great touch for a while. In the last three years in Test cricket, he’s averaged just 24.52. Despite this slump, Babar just became the first Asian batter to score 3,000 runs in the World Test Championship (WTC) history.

Babar Azam breaks WTC record

Big names like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have played more matches than Pakistan’s former captain, yet he’s the one to actually get there first. Now, one might say, they have retired. But among current players, like Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill, were also in this race.

Guess what? Babar’s beaten them to the punch as well. That too, while playing fewer Test matches than both the Indian cricketers. While Pant is out with an injury, Gill had the chance to get their first during the ongoing India vs West Indies Test series, but he’s still 174 runs short of the 3000-run mark.

Babar, meanwhile, remains unbeaten on 23 in the Pakistan vs South Africa 1st Test in Lahore and could take a substantial lead over both Pant and Gill. As things stand, Babar is the eighth-highest run-getter in WTC history but will most likely overtake England’s Zak Crawley, who has 3041 runs, by the time the 2-match Test series ends.
