CHESTNUT HILL, MA — Clemson football quarterback Cade Klubnik exited with an ankle injury in the third quarter against Boston College on Oct. 11.
“He was trying to come back in there. It’s his ankle,” Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said on ACC Network after the 41-10 win. “So, we just held him. We were just going to see how it was. Good to get CV some opportunity, but he was trying to get back in there, but we were just going to see how it went.”
Swinney said postgame he anticipates Klubnik playing against SMU (4-2, 2-0 ACC) on Oct. 18 (3:30 p.m. ET, ACC Network) at Memorial Stadium.
On second-and-9, Klubnik rushed up the middle for a gain of 6 yards, but three Boston College defenders collapsed on him. He got up limping, and Clemson (3-3, 2-2) called a timeout. Afterward, Klubnik went into the injury tent, and backup quarterback Christopher Vizzina replaced him.
Klubnik was in the tent for the duration of Boston College’s next offensive drive, and multiple coaches, including Swinney and offensive coordinator Garrett Riley, checked on him. He exited the tent, reentered, then departed again. He gave a thumbs-up to the crowd and was interacting with players and Swinney without his helmet.
Klubnik was 22-for-30 passing for 280 yards, two touchdowns (one rushing) and one interception before exiting the game.
Clemson routed Boston College (1-5, 0-4) for its second straight ACC win.
