England team to play Australia: Owen Farrell STARTS this Autumn

After a positive summer that saw England beat Argentina twice on South American soil—despite missing a host of stars away with the British & Irish Lions—Steve Borthwick now faces a welcome selection headache ahead of the Autumn Nations Series.

England will kick off their campaign against Australia on November 1st at Allianz Stadium, followed by games against Fiji, New Zealand, and Argentina.

Here’s a predicted starting XV for that opening clash against the Wallabies.

15 Marcus Smith

Marcus Smith could find himself reprising the fullback role rather than his more familiar fly-half position. It seems Borthwick increasingly sees Smith as a long-term option at 15, perhaps in an effort to utilise both his attacking instincts and game management skills from deeper positions. While his aerial ability might not match Freddie Steward’s, Smith offers a broader attacking threat and superb game intelligence.

14 Tom Roebuck

A standout in the Prem, Tom Roebuck’s aerial prowess makes him a nightmare to defend. He underlined his Test credentials over the summer, grabbing a brace in one of the wins over Argentina. At just 24, he looks set to be a fixture on the wing for years to come.

13 Tommy Freeman

There’s been growing talk of a position switch for Freeman, and this autumn could be the time to try him at outside centre. His direct running, eye for the try-line, and solid defensive work make him a compelling option in the midfield. With less pressure than the Six Nations, now might be the perfect time to test the waters.

12 Owen Farrell

Having returned to Saracens following a turbulent spell in France with Racing 92, Owen Farrell is back in the England fold. At 34, this may be the final chapter in his international career, but his experience could be vital in the short term. With Seb Atkinson ruled out through injury, Farrell offers calm and control at inside centre—something Borthwick may value highly.

11 Immanuel Feyi-Waboso

After a disrupted year due to injury and suspension, Feyi-Waboso has come into this season with a clear sense of purpose. The 22-year-old brings lightning speed and sharp agility, a perfect counterbalance to Roebuck’s aerial threat. With his explosive running and attacking potential, the Exeter man looks nailed on for a starting spot.

10 George Ford

George Ford remains the steadiest hand at fly-half. While Fin Smith is waiting in the wings as England’s future, Ford’s performances—especially in Argentina—make him impossible to ignore. His tactical nous and ability to guide a game make him a reliable engine-room presence and a mentor for the younger players around him.
