Report of shooting at LA Academy Middle School in South Los Angeles prompts police response

SOUTH LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A report of a possible shooting Thursday afternoon at a South Los Angeles middle school prompted a lockdown and massive response from LAPD officers and campus police.
The incident was reported around noon at Los Angeles Academy Middle School and STEAM Magnet, near the intersection of Slauson Avenue and Avalon Boulevard.
Authorities said police detained one student who was accused by another student of possibly having a gun. However, investigators said no gun has been found, there were no shots fired and there were no injuries.
The student remains detained by police and the school is on lockdown as authorities conduct a thorough search of the campus for any weapon, according to investigators.
Video from AIR7 showed several patrol vehicles parked near the school’s front entrance as officers conducted a room-to-room search of the campus.
