Now ITV has confirmed it will air on Monday, January 5 at 8pm.

Beforehand, a regular episode of Emmerdale will air at 7pm for half an hour, before being followed by a 30 minute edition of Corrie.

Then, Corriedale will air at 8pm in an hour-long slot to mark the historic moment the two soaps come together for the first time.

The next day, the channel’s new soap ‘power hour’ will begin, with both shows airing five 30-minute episodes a week.

Emmerdale will make a permanent move to 8pm, while Coronation Street will follow at 8.30pm each night.

It means the shows will have one less episode a week compared to their current output.

In the historic episode, a multi-vehicle pile up will bring the Dales and Weatherfield worlds together.

In an explosive first-look trailer, the aftermath of the crash on a dark and stormy country road near the village of Hotten can be seen.

Desperate voices scream for help in the darkness as the emergency services arrive.

Fans of both soaps will recognise them as David Platt, Tracy Barlow, Liam Cavanagh, and Aaron Dingle.

Corrie actors Jack P Shepherd, Vicky Myers and Kate Ford feature in the trailer, confirming their roles in the special, while Emmerdale’s Johnny McPherson joins Danny Miller in it.

The ITV teaser says: “CORRIEDALE is just the start of the drama as the aftermath of the crash gives rise to fear, murderous intent, death, destruction, closely-guarded secrets, and lies.

“Life in Emmerdale and Weatherfield will never be the same again!”

Corriedale airs on Monday, January 5 at 8pm on ITV1.
