Snowfall expected in Arizona’s high country for First Alert Weather Day

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — An update to the forecast: Our best chances for rain across the Valley on Saturday for our First Alert Weather Day. Only light sprinkles are possible on Friday.

The low-pressure system approaching from the west is now taking a more southerly track.

Temperatures will also cool over the next few days, with highs in the mid to upper 60s from Friday to Sunday. This low is expected to filter in moisture across the state by Friday.

We could see light showers across central and southeastern Arizona on Friday, but the best chances for more moderate rainfall are expected Friday night into Saturday morning.

We could then get another round of showers and possible thunderstorms throughout Saturday afternoon.

Rainfall totals aren’t very high, with anywhere from a tenth to a quarter of an inch expected across the lower deserts, and higher amounts across the higher terrain.

We could see a few snow flurries throughout the day Friday in the high country, but the best snowfall looks to be Friday evening into Saturday morning with a wintry mix between 6500-7000 feet. Snow levels will drop further by Saturday. Most accumulation will be above 7000′.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect Friday to Sunday morning for parts of eastern Arizona, including Pinetop, Show Low and Greer.

Areas like Pinetop could see 3-5″ of snow, while the highest elevations of the White Mountains could see 10-12″.

For next week, we are tracking dry conditions by Sunday with temperatures warming back into the mid to lower 70s through the week.
