The Los Angeles Lakers are trading guard Gabe Vincent to the Atlanta Hawks, team and league sources told The Athletic.

Los Angeles will receive guard Luke Kennard and a 2032 second-round pick in return. Atlanta will also create an $11 million trade exception.

The Lakers’ front office targeted and found a real three-point threat for Luka Dončić, LeBron James and Austin Reaves this postseason, one of their priorities.

The Lakers, who needed perimeter defenders, rebounders and athleticism, instead addressed another glaring issue: shooting. Kennard is shooting 49.7 percent from beyond the 3-point arc this season and is a career 44.2 percent shooter from there.

Kennard, who is making $11 million this season, is an unrestricted free agent after this season, allowing the Lakers to maintain the cap flexibility they also coveted.

The Lakers signed Vincent, 29, to a deal using their midlevel exception after he helped lead the Miami Heat to the NBA Finals in 2023. However, his first season in Los Angeles was nearly nonexistent, with knee problems (and surgery) limiting him to just 11 games.

Vincent played 72 games the following season, shooting 35.3 percent from 3. This season, he’s moved between the bench and starting lineup as the Lakers have dealt with a slew of injuries. He’s an unrestricted free agent after this season.
