Which country is the most successful at the Winter Olympics?

Norway is the country with the most success at Winter Olympics since the games began in 1924 in France.

The country’s total of 405 medals is the record for most won in the history of the Games – including most gold medals won (148).

Norway has led the medal table at 10 Games, including the last three in 2014, 2018 and 2022.

The nation also has the athletes who have won the most medals for their country, and most medals won overall.

Skier Marit Bjorgen is the most-decorated winter Olympian. She has won a total of 15 medals across five Games between 2002 and 2018.

Biathlete Ole Einar Bjorndalen is the most-decorated male athlete, with 14 medals.

Norway lead on the medals in cross country skiing, with a total of 129 medals – their most in a single event.

They also lead on medals in Biathlon, ski jumping and Nordic combined.

Norway had 84 competitors across events for the 2022 Games.
