Mitt Romney’s sister-in-law died by suicide, L.A. County ME’s office says

The sister-in-law of 2012 Republican presidential nominee and former U.S. Sen. Mitt Romney died by suicide in a Southern California city this year, the medical examiner’s office said Tuesday.

Carrie Elizabeth Romney, 64, of Valencia, was found dead after a five-story fall from a parking structure at around 8:30 p.m. Oct. 10 in the northern Los Angeles County suburb of Santa Clarita, officials said at the time.

The manner of death was ruled suicide, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Department said in a statement Tuesday.

Carrie Romney and George Scott Romney, Mitt Romney’s brother, were married in November 2016. The couple had been separated since May 25, according to a Los Angeles County divorce petition George Scott Romney filed June 10.

“Our family is heartbroken by the loss of Carrie, who brought warmth and love to all our lives,” Mitt Romney said in a statement to NBC News shortly after her death.
