Home invasion Long Island: Burglar arrested after 12-year-old boy hears him break in Medford house, calls police

MEDFORD, Long Island (WABC) — A home invasion on Long Island played out like a scene from the classic holiday movie “Home Alone,” except the kid didn’t fight the burglar… he called police.

Suffolk County Police say a 12-year-old boy was at his home on Eagle Avenue in Medford on Tuesday just before 1 p.m., when he heard glass breaking in the kitchen and someone moving around the house.

The boy jumped outside his bedroom window and hid in the backyard, where he called police.

Officials say officers responded within three minutes of the call and found 53-year-old Christian Garcia had broken a kitchen window and was inside the home.

Officers arrested Garcia, who was charged with third-degree burglary and possession of burglars tools.

The 12-year-old child was not hurt.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Sixth Squad detectives at 631-854-8652.
