Panthers’ Marchand exits vs. Maple Leafs after big hit from McMann

After taking a big hit from Toronto Maple Leafs’ Bobby McMann near the end of the second period, Brad Marchand did not return to the ice for the third.

Marchand totalled 11:41 of ice time and one shot before the injury.

The 37-year-old signed a six-year, $31.5-million contract extension with the Panthers on June 30 after being sent to Florida by the Boston Bruins at last year’s trade deadline. He has 23 goals and 23 assists through 40 games this season.

The Nova Scotia native arrived in Toronto on Tuesday, ready to create some havoc. During a media availability earlier in the day, Marchand told reporters, “It’s unfortunate the fans ran (Mitch) Marner out of town. I mean, that’s a huge impact for their group. He’s a point-per-game player — that hurts.”
