Report: Free agent Kyle Tucker nearing decision

A key domino in MLB free agency may soon fall.

Star outfielder Kyle Tucker could make a decision on his next team as soon as this week, Will Sammon of The Athletic reported on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Fansided’s Robert Murray reported later on Tuesday that the Mets made Tucker a short-term offer worth $50 million per season.

The Blue Jays have been one of the more aggressive pursuers of the 28-year-old, who is widely viewed as the top free agent position player available this winter.

He was spotted alongside longtime Blue Jays lead-off man George Springer at a TGL match earlier in January, and previously visited the Jays’ spring-training complex in Dunedin, Fla., in December.

Springer and Tucker were teammates with the Houston Astros from 2018 to 2020.

Tucker, who turns 29 on Saturday, combines speed and power into a formidable offensive profile. With the Chicago Cubs last season, he hit 22 home runs with an .841 OPS and 25 stolen bases.
