Former Emmerdale star Kelvin Fletcher has a very different life after quitting his role in the ITV soap which shot him to stardom.

The Andy Sugden actor left Emmerdale in 2016 after playing the character for 20 years. Viewers saw how Andy was framed for Lawrence White’s shooting by Chrissie White, leading him to escape custody and go on the run with a fake passport to avoid conviction.

These days in what some might see as life immitating art, Kelvin and his wife Liz live on a farm with their four young children and their life is documented on the ITV series, Fletchers’ Family Farm which is returning for a fourth series.

Ahead of the new season, Kelvin, who turns 42 this weekend, and Liz appeared on James Martin’s Saturday Morning on January 17 where they spoke about their “chaotic” life today and the chef was keen to know if he missed the soap and whether he would be making a soap comeback.

“Do you miss your old life as well? I mean you did 2,000 episodes. When you look at it like that, that’s a huge amount,” James put to him.

Kelvin replied: “No I don’t. Emmerdale was 20 happy years but there’s not a day goes by I’d ever really think about it really. It’s a past chapter and I’ve very much moved on now. It’s funny, like I’ve said before, how life’s immitating art.”

James then asked if his character any had been killed off or whether he could ever return to the Dales.

“I think I’m on the run, I think I’m in Spain,” Kelvin joked. “So I could go back having trained as a chef with a bit of a tan!”

But for now Kelvin and Liz are focusing on the fourth series of Fletchers’ Family farm which follows their adventures on their farm in the Peak District.

Liz teased what viewers can expect saying: “We’re bringing pigs back into it this time – we’ve had a bit of a break from pigs because they become a bit problematic but we miss them so we have brought pigs back. Just more of farm chaos really!”

They also shared that there would be re-runs of the previous series on ITV1 in the 7.30pm weeknight slot that’s now been vacated by Emmerdale as it moves to a later time.

“We’re the new Emmerdale basically,” laughed Liz. “On a Monday night they’re going to show shorter versions of series one, two and three.” Kelvin added: “It’s a bit of a catch up, a bit of a rejig, so if you’ve been under a rock for the past couple of years, this is what you’ve missed.”

Emmerdale is on ITV1 weeknights at 8pm. Fletchers’ Family Farm returns to ITV1 on Monday, January 19 at 7.30pm
