Yorkshire Shepherdess Amanda Owen shares update ‘I never thought I would be doing’

Our Yorkshire Farm star Amanda Owen has shared an update “that I never thought that I would be doing”.
It comes following the death of the family’s beloved dog Chalky at the end of October last year.
Amanda, who is set to appear alongside her ex-husband Clive and their nine children in a new series of Our Farm Next Door from tomorrow (January 19), revealed she was worried that their other “lovely” terrier dog Sprout was “fading away” just months after the Owens’ devastating family loss.
Recently, Sprout became “physically poorly” and ended up with a trip to the vets, but it turns out, she was in fact “grieving” and searching for her “best friend” Chalky.
Aside from behaving “really strangely”, just some of her symptoms included being unsettled and no appetite for food or life.

On Instagram along with a selection of photos showing both pets hanging out with each other over the years, Amanda explained to her followers: “Well, here’s an update that I never thought that I would be doing.
“Sprout our lovely (often overlooked) terrier had been behaving quite strangely of late.
“In fact she became physically poorly, ending up at the veterinary surgery as we thought that she was perhaps seriously ill as she was behaving really strangely.
“Was unsettled, no appetite for food and life and refusing to even come inside the house !
“She would wander off, calling in at our neighbours houses, albeit briefly seeming listless, dull eyed and generally was not herself at all.
“After weeks of this and wondering if she was going to fade away we realised that actually what was wrong was relatively simple. She was grieving and searching for Chalky, her best friend, partner in crime and full on foe at times.
“Apparently there were medications that could be used to lift her but we decided that this was not the cure !”
Ahead of Our Farm Next Door: Amanda, Clive and Kids series three, which is filmed in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, Amanda reflected on the “awful” loss of Chalky and her favourite memory.
She said: “I mean, not unexpected, because obviously she was a good age. And I mean it happens.

“I mean if there’s one thing you preach when you live on a farm, it’s that you see the cycles of life. You know, you get to see it, but it still doesn’t make it any easier, because you know, particularly for the little ones, she’d been a constant, she’d always been there.
“But we were blessed in respect to the fact that she wasn’t particularly poorly, she wasn’t in any pain and she just faded away.
“But yes, it was hard and I think, to be honest with you, Sprout has found it incredibly difficult because Sprout is still looking for her.”
Our Farm Next Door: Amanda, Clive and Kids series three airs on Monday, January 19, from 9pm on More4.
