Seattle Seahawks to host LA Rams for NFC championship game

The stakes couldn’t be any higher for the rubber match between the Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams.

The Rams beat the Bears 20-17 in overtime in the divisional round on Sunday to advance to face the Seahawks in the NFC championship game at Lumen Field, setting up a third matchup between the division rivals this season.

The Seahawks and Rams will kick off at 3:30 p.m. next Sunday, Jan. 25. Radio coverage can be heard on Seattle Sports 710 AM, KIRO Newsradio 97.3 FM and the Seattle Sports app starting with the pregame show at least three hours prior to kickoff. The game will be televised on FOX.

This is the sixth time since 2000 that two teams from the same division are facing off in the conference championship game. The NFC East’s Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders accomplished the feat last season.

The winner of the NFC title tilt will take on the winner of next weekend’s AFC championship game between the Denver Broncos and New England Patriots in the Super Bowl on Sunday, Feb. 8 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

The Seahawks are making their first NFC title game appearance since the 2014 campaign and are looking for their first trip to the Super Bowl since that same season. The Rams last made the title game when they won Super Bowl LVI during the 2021 season.

Matchup history

The Seahawks and Rams split their season series with home team taking both games.

Los Angeles won the initial clash between the division rivals 21-19 back in Week 11. The Seahawks were able to hold MVP candidate Matthew Stafford to just 130 yards passing (the second-fewest in 85 games with the Rams including the postseason), but they couldn’t overcome Sam Darnold’s four interceptions and fell short after Jason Myers missed a 61-yard field goal attempt as time expired.

The Seahawks pulled off a stunning comeback from down to 16 in the fourth quarter to win the rematch in overtime during Week 16. Rashid Shaheed started the rally with a 58-yard punt return touchdown and Darnold finished it off with a 4-yard TD pass to Jaxon Smith-Njigba and walkoff 2-point-conversion pass to Eric Saubert.

This will also be the third meeting between the NFC West rivals in the playoffs. The Seahawks were the NFC West champions during the two previous meetings, but the Rams won both games, beating the Seahawks at Lumen Field 30-20 in the 2020 wild-card round and 27-20 in the 2004 wild-card round.
