4 Potential WWE WrestleMania 42 Storylines for Randy Orton

Randy Orton’s storyline heading into “WrestleMania 42” could unfold in multiple ways. As the company continues its build toward Las Vegas, the creative direction for the seasoned veteran remains open to several compelling possibilities. WWE has several booking options for the Viper to ensure his presence makes an impact on the biggest show of the year.

Heel Turn Against Cody Rhodes

Orton and Cody Rhodes are both officially set to enter the men’s “Elimination Chamber” match. Despite their well-documented mutual respect and shared history, the unforgiving environment of the steel structure could ignite a bitter, deeply personal feud between the two stars.

If Rhodes eliminates Orton with his signature Cross Rhodes maneuver, the veteran may retaliate with a sudden, devastating RKO, leading directly to Cody’s own exit from the contest. This sudden betrayal would set up a heated student-mentor rivalry, culminating in a highly anticipated singles showdown at “WrestleMania” that fans have been clamoring to see for years.

Championship Pursuit Against Drew McIntyre

Another strong possibility involves Orton outlasting the field and winning the Chamber match outright. WWE management has faced recent criticism from the audience for not pushing the veteran in top-tier scenarios, and his noticeable absence from the initial “WrestleMania 42” promotional video legitimately angered his dedicated fanbase.

Booking him to win the Chamber and subsequently defeat Drew McIntyre for the Undisputed WWE Championship would serve as an effective form of damage control. Orton has openly spoken in recent interviews about his desire to chase his 15th world title, making this path a logical and highly satisfying option for viewers.

Feud With Jacob Fatu

If Orton falls short and loses in the Chamber, the creative team could pivot to a completely fresh storyline involving a newer threat. Jacob Fatu, who was attacked by a mysterious figure on “SmackDown” last October, could finally step forward and reveal Orton as his unseen assailant.

Fatu might even interfere during the Chamber match itself, bypassing the steel chains to target Orton directly and reignite his own chaotic character arc. This revelation and subsequent assault would seamlessly set up a high-stakes, hard-hitting clash between the unpredictable Samoan brawler and the calculated Viper on the grandest stage.

Fatal 4-Way Main Event

Alternatively, WWE could opt to embrace chaos and book a multi-man spectacle for the championship. If Cody Rhodes wins the Chamber to challenge Drew McIntyre, both Orton and Fatu could find creative ways to insert themselves into the volatile title mix.

In response to the escalating tension, “SmackDown” General Manager Nick Aldis could then announce a Fatal 4-Way for the Undisputed WWE Championship. Given that Cody and Drew have already faced each other three times in singles matches over the past six months, adding Orton and Fatu to a four-way bout would inject much-needed freshness and unpredictability into the main event picture.
