‘Crash Land’ Star Gabriel LaBelle Talks Stunts On Dempsey Bryk Film

CRASH LAND
Section: Narrative Spotlight
Director/Screenwriter: Dempsey Bryk
Logline: Two amateur stuntmen try to make a “real movie” to prove their lives have meaning. They crash and burn.
Panelists: Dempsey Bryk, Finn Wolfhard, Abby Quinn, Billy Bryk, Noah Parker and Gabriel LaBelle
Key Quote: “We don’t do any of the real stunts. We had these incredible stunt performers who look exactly like us. My favorite way that we would shoot it is, the boys filmed themselves on camcorders,” star Gabriel LaBelle said. “So much of the movie was shot on camcorders, and we would do these real classic cowboy switches, of them jumping off and eating sh-t, and then the camera would whip pan to Noah getting up, and then whip pan back to me. And I had run in from off camera and gone under hay and jump[ed] up as if it was just me. It really looks authentic, that it is us on these camcorders, and that was my favorite part.”
