All of a sudden, the Toronto Blue Jays may need some starting pitcher help. With all the arms on the injured list to start the season, could an impactful trade be in store soon?

In a recent MLB mock trade idea by SI.com, writer Ethen Hutton proposes a trade package that would send Minnesota Twins‘ starter Joe Ryan to the Blue Jays in exchange for three players (JoJo Parker, Arjun Nimmala, and Ernie Clement).

Should the Blue Jays Trade for Joe Ryan?

The Blue Jays are off to a bit of a slow start, but it’s nothing to fret about for the defending AL Pennant winners. However, after the news of Cody Ponce missing the entire year with knee surgery, there’s a big hole in the Jays’ rotation now, and Joe Ryan is thought to be a top trade candidate in MLB, who also happens to be under team control.

Here’s Hutton’s reasoning for the trade package working out:

“In the proposed deal, the Twins deal Ryan to Toronto for veteran third baseman Ernie Clement, and a pair of highly touted prospects. JoJo Parker and Arjun Nimmala could serve as cornerstone assets for a Twins squad that’s expected to kick off a rebuild. In Toronto, Ryan joins a World Series contender and would provide valuable production to Toronto’s injury-riddled bullpen.”

Other Blue Jays starters sidelined right now include Jose Berrios, Trey Yesavage, and Shane Bieber.

Joe Ryan has emerged as a top starter in MLB, but is this trade package a little too prospect-heavy for the Jays to complete a deal?

Who Says ‘No’ To Proposed Trade Package?

As good as Joe Ryan is, this might be too much to give up for the Jays.

The good news on the recent injury front is that Toronto will get all of its starters back soon, and then it can fully assess what they may/may not want to do on the trade front.

It’s also too early to truly start thinking about trades, but it’s always fun to speculate. As for Ernie Clement being the centerpiece of this deal, if you remember correctly, Clement made MLB history last playoffs with ‘the most hits’ in one single playoffs.
