A devastated dad says making memories with his daughter is on hold after tens of thousands of pounds of damage was inflicted on his home and vehicles by a mindless vandal.
Dan Page, a tiler from Newquay, was on a dog walk on Thursday (April 9) when he returned to find glass strewn all over his property. The windows on his house were smashed, as well as extensive damage to his work vehicle and motorhome, which is extremely sentimental.
Fortunately, the 46-year-old, his young daughter and his two dogs were not home at the time. Unfortunately, he’s since discovered that his vehicle insurance does not cover the damage to the motorhome, so he’s significantly out of pocket.
A fundraising page has been set up by Dan in an attempt to raise some money for repairs. Here he writes: “My life was turned upside down.
“An individual came to my home and carried out an unprovoked attack with an axe. My work van has been completely written off, all the windows in my motorhome were smashed, front lights smashed and even the windows at the front of my house and my front door were destroyed.
“The total damage is estimated to be around £25,000. To make matters worse, I’ve since found out that my insurance will not cover the window damage to my motorhome, despite having third-party, fire and theft cover. I’m now facing a significant financial burden at a time when I can least afford it.
“My work van being written off means I’m currently unable to work, which has left me without an income while I try to sort everything out and find a replacement vehicle.
“The motorhome means a lot to me and my 10-year-old daughter. It’s something we use to get away, spend quality time together, and have a break from everything. Right now, that’s been taken away from us too.

“This all comes after an already difficult period in my life following a relationship breakdown seven months ago. To go through something like this on top of everything else has been incredibly hard to process. I’ve never asked for help like this before, but right now I feel like I have no choice.” View the GoFundMe, here.
He added: “I do not want an upgrade and I do not want to milk anybody, but for me and my daughter to have that time back is just priceless to me. We love to make memories and our weekends of doing that are on hold now.”
A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Police were called to a property in Lewarne Road, Newquay, at around 1.15pm on Thursday 9 April following reports of a man in possession of an axe and causing criminal damage.
“It was further reported that the man had left the scene. Units, including armed officers attended the scene and later located a man at Cornwall Services.
“A 44-year-old man from Newquay has been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, theft and drink-driving. He has been released on bail, pending further enquiries.”
