A rainfall warning remains in place Friday for the Halifax area and much of the South Shore with a storm system set to impact the area throughout the day.

The yellow-level warning is calling for 40 to 60 mm of rain and potentially higher for areas that see thunderstorms.

“Rainfall rates of 5 to 10 mm per hour are possible over some areas,” read the advisory from Environment Canada. “Rain will taper off from west to east through the day today.”

CityNews meteorologist Allister Aadlers says the rain is forecast to continue throughout Friday.

“This is a slow moving system, the downpours that come with it could be slower moving, which means we could see localized areas of higher rainfall but also some localized pooling or flooding, especially in lower-lying areas,” Aalders said.

Conditions are expected to dry out by Saturday, with more rain in the forecast for Sunday.
