With two games left to play, it really is still all to play for.

For the neutral, the last two seasons haven’t offered much in the way of relegation battle drama.

Last season Ipswich Town were confirmed as the third and final team to go down on April 26.

The year before, Luton Town’s relegation was technically assured before the final day – but it was mathematically confirmed when they failed to pull off a 13-goal swing to catch 17th-placed Nottingham Forest on matchday 38.

But you don’t have to rewind too far to see the twists and turns that the fight to survive can offer.

In May 2023, Leicester City and Leeds United were both relegated on the final day in 2023. The Foxes did their part by beating West Ham, but Everton were in the driving seat, and their win against Bournemouth meant it didn’t matter that Leeds lost or how well Leicester did against the Irons.

In 2021/2022, it was tense between Leeds and Burnley who each had 35 points going into the final day of the season. Burnley fans were given hope when Maxwel Cornet pulled the Clarets back to 2-1 down against Newcastle, but an equaliser didn’t materialise – while Leeds scored against Brentford in injury time to secure their safety.
