FIRST ALERT UPDATE – We’re tracking overnight storms

- Tonight is a First Alert Day with severe storms bringing hail and damaging winds
- Sunday and Monday are First Alert Days with the highest severe storm risk
- Temperatures climb into the 80s through Monday before cooling on Tuesday
MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Southern Wisconsin faces an active stretch of weather beginning late Friday afternoon and continuing through Tuesday, with tonight, Sunday, and Monday designated as First Alert Days due to significant severe weather threats.
Friday afternoon will feature breezy south winds with gusts around 30 mph and sunny skies, pushing temperatures into the upper 70s to lower 80s across southern Wisconsin.
A complex of thunderstorms will move across southern Wisconsin Friday evening through early Saturday morning. These storms will pack a punch with large hail and damaging winds as the main concerns. The strongest storms are expected west of Madison, where conditions will be most favorable for severe weather development. As the storms track eastward through the overnight hours, they should gradually weaken.
Saturday brings a brief break with partly sunny skies and temperatures climbing into the lower 80s. Humidity levels remain comfortable, with dew points in the mid-50s. However, another round of storms may develop Saturday evening, particularly along and south of Interstate 90.
Next days we’re watching…
Sunday is another First Alert Day as a warm front lifts northward through the region. Showers and thunderstorms will develop during the afternoon and evening hours. These storms could turn severe with hail and damaging winds as the primary threats. The combination of warm, humid air and strong wind shear will create an environment favorable for storm development.
Monday is also a First Alert Day and appears to be the most significant severe weather day of the period. A strong weather system moving through the region will bring another round of storms during the afternoon and evening. The exact timing remains uncertain, but conditions will support severe thunderstorms capable of producing large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rainfall.
Looking ahead…
The main cold front finally pushes through southern Wisconsin on Tuesday, bringing one last chance for storms before cooler and drier air arrives on Wednesday. Temperatures will drop back into more comfortable levels to end the week.
With multiple rounds of storms expected, heavy rainfall is also a concern. Some areas could see significant rain totals, particularly Sunday through Tuesday. Stay weather aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings over the next several days.
