‘Unhappy with current role’ – Newcastle United star will consider transfer if Howe doesn’t change

Nick Woltemade is unhappy with his changed role at Newcastle United under Eddie Howe

Nick Woltemade is ‘unhappy with his current role’ at Newcastle United and will consider a move in the summer if there isn’t a change.

Sport BILD report on the striker today and how the relationship between him and Eddie Howe has cooled in recent months.

Howe relationship cools

The newspaper explains that everything was rosy for Nick Woltemade up until Christmas. The 24-year-old was scoring goals, providing assists and had established himself as a fan favourite.

But since the turn of year, he has only scored once in 24 games. That’s because Eddie Howe has decided to play him in a more defensive midfield position for several weeks.

The Newcastle manager has also left the summer signing sat on the bench. And that has led to a cooling of the relationship between the pair.

According to SportBILD, Woltemade is ‘unhappy with his current role’. He’s also less than pleased with how Howe’s tone towards him has become harsher. The Newcastle manager recently stated publicly that Woltemade’s high transfer fee doesn’t guarantee him a starting role.

There’s no plan for that to change even if Anthony Gordon departs this summer. Newcastle, and Howe, have seemingly cooled towards the summer signing.

No Newcastle United issues

Nick Woltemade, for his part, is not getting distracted by the situation. He remains focused on the end of the season and going to the World Cup.

Fortunately for him he has a much more relaxed relationship with Julian Nagelsmann. They communicate regularly and have a relationship built on ‘mutual trust’. Woltemade is already aware he’ll be a back up striker to Kai Havertz at the World Cup this summer.

His situation at Newcastle United is not expected to change this. Nagelsmann trusts him and will be taking him to the tournament.

The tournament is Woltemade’s fist and he doesn’t want to stir trouble before it. He and his entourage are also keen to play down any talk of trouble.

For instance, claims he removed Newcastle United from his Instagram profile following a critical article from journalist Luke Edwards, who is ‘said to have a close relationship with Eddie Howe’, have been played down.

Sport BILD report Woltemade had already removed Newcastle United and Germany references before this happened. The situation could change after the World Cup.

If the striker’s role at Newcastle isn’t different, he may discuss moving on. But no clubs have been in contact about a move up to this point.
